Ahimsa Yoga Studio

Here are some frequently asked questions (FAQ's) :

Q: I'd like to attend a class. Do I need to sign up online?

A: No. Just show up 10 minutes before class begins. You can sign up online and purchase classes here.

Q: I have a Groupon. How do I register for class?

A: Groupons can only be used at the Elmhurst and Berwyn Locations. Bring your Groupon to your first class with you. We don't offer online sign ups for Groupons.

Q. Do instructors play music during class?

A: Some do, some don't. The instructors who do play music don't play it too loud. We have a few live music classes in Oak Park. Check the schedule for the most up to date happenings.

Q: I'm out of shape and/or not flexible! Can I still do yoga?

A: Yes. It's never too late to improve your health or flexibility. In a yoga class, everyone is at a different level and the instructors will give you a few different options to try. Private lessons are also a good idea if you have trouble standing up on your own or getting down to the ground. Our instructors would love to work with you. More info here.

Q: Can I do yoga if I have an injury or physical limitation?

A: If you feel your injury will not allow you to try most of the poses with modifications, it may be best to take another week off. Please let the instructors know before class if you have an injury or limitation. We look forward to helping people of all ages, sizes and genders. Restorative classes are accessible if you have an injury or limitation. Privates lessons are also a great idea if you need more special attention.

Q: Which class should I take?

A: If you are brand new, we recommend anything except vinyasa flow, because that is our most challenging class. Level 1 or 1-2 classes are good for beginners. You can read class descriptions here

Q: What should I wear or bring to class?

A: Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. Bring a yoga mat if you have one (you can use one of ours for free, and we also sell them in our store) and a water bottle if you need one. Yoga is done in bare feet, but you can wear socks if you'd like.

Q: Do you have mats for rent or purchase?

A: Yes. We have clean mats for rent for free. We also have mats for sale at the studio.

Q: When should I arrive for class?

A: 10 minutes before class begins, especially if you are a new student. You need time to fill out a waiver and get ready for class.

Q: What does Ahimsa mean?

A: Ahimsa (ah-HIM-suh) is a sanskrit term that means non-violence or non-harming in thought or deed. It's one of the five yamas, or moral codes, that yogis follow.

Q: Do you have beverages available?

A: Yes. We have water and tea at our Oak Park and Elmhurst locations, and water at our Berwyn location. We encourage you to bring your own water bottle.

Q: Can my child take yoga?

A: We think high school is a great age to begin yoga. Children over the age of 13 are welcome in our classes. In addition, we offer yoga classes especially for kids and teens.

Q: Can my child or parent wait for me in the studio, or stay and watch while I am in class?

A: If your child is enrolled in the YogaKids program that meets Wednesday afternoon during the school year, you may wait in the lobby while they take class. Otherwise, we do not allow kids or parents to wait while someone takes class unless someone is at the front desk.

Q: Can I do yoga if I'm pregnant?

A: Yes. All of our teachers are able to instruct on yoga during pregnancy. Please let the instructor know you are pregnant before attending a class.
